A note from the archive. Twenty-one documents in, this organisation has changed its name. A change of name is the single most bureaucratic act available to any institution: it requires a committee, a vote, minutes, new letterhead and a notification to the membership. We convened nothing, voted on nothing, recorded nothing and notified nobody, of whom there are none. The old name simply wore out and we stopped using it. It is the most efficient rebrand in recorded history and it cost nothing, which is also the annual budget.

For a while, this corner of the internet was affectionately called Benno's Sect. The title was intentionally tongue-in-cheek — a playful poke at how easily humans like to organize themselves into camps, labels, and identities.

Ironically, the joke occasionally became the thing people noticed first.

So we let it evolve.

We would like to note that the name changed itself. It was not rebranded, repositioned or rolled out. It simply stopped fitting, the way a coat stops fitting, and was left on the back of a chair. — the archive

Not because we abandoned the humor, but because the joke has already served its purpose.

What is a Non-Sect?the complete administrative apparatus

A non-sect has:

Membershipempty

No membership. There is no list, because a list would need maintaining, and the person who would maintain it does not exist and has already resigned.

Hierarchyempty

No hierarchy. The organisational chart contains one box. The box is not labelled. The Supreme Leader is out looking at butterflies and has been for some years.

Required Beliefsempty

No required beliefs. We have twenty-one documents of them and not one is required. Several disagree with each other. We consider that a feature and have stopped apologising for it.

Secret Knowledgeempty

No secret knowledge. Everything we have is on the website, in public, at no charge, in a fairly large font. The only thing we are keeping back is where Benno went, and that is because we don't know.

Obligation to Agreeempty

No obligation to agree. Disagreement has never once been logged as a complaint, because the complaints box has never been used and we had assumed it was broken.

Recruitmentempty

And certainly no recruitment. This document is, technically, an advertisement. It advertises nothing, offers nothing and asks for nothing. Marketing has been informed. Marketing does not exist.
